Road users of the dilapidated Kumba-Mamfe road in the South West Region will in the coming months hiss a sigh of relief as the Cameroon government, the Development Bank of Central African States and the African Fund for Development this Saturday February 9, 2013, signed two loan agreements for the partial funding of the construction of the road. The loan agreement totals FCFA 68.2 billion and will be used to commence the construction of the 171 KM road beginning June this year. Emmanuel Nganou Njoumessi, Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, MINEPAT, who signed the agreement on behalf of the Cameroon government, said the time has arrived for the Kumba-Mamfe road to be tarred. The Development Bank of Central African States loaned FCFA 25 billion while the African Fund for Development, the financial arm of the African Development Bank, loaned FCFA 37.3 billion. The government will contribute FCFA 5.8 billion from the 2013 state budget to the cost of the project thereby raising the total amount of the agreement to FCFA 68.2 billion. Note should be taken that, the total cost for the construction of the 171 KM Kumba-Mamfe road is FCFA 85.7 billion. This mathematically means that, MINEPAT will continue searching for the remaining FCFA 17.5 billion. The tarring of the road will end the sufferings of it users, who usually spend the night on the way or descend onboard vehicles to assist the driver in pushing it during rainy season. |
