Seven days after the proclamation of Senate results, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), John Fru Ndi says the outcome of the elections which saw him beaten at his North West base by the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, is not the political obituary of his party.

Responding to a question over state radio on Sunday regarding claims by some political pundits that the dead of the SDF is at hand, Fru Ndi convincingly said “This is not the first time that the prophets of doom will always forecast the death of the SDF. I think that the person to kill the SDF is not yet born.”

Ni John said his party noticed the “politics of the rich” being played during the April 14 first ever senate election in Cameroon. “People had to put a price tag on democracy in this country and this is very unfortunate for us.” Mr. Chairman continued.

He said in the North West, even Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) saw that people were lodged and fed in by Text-Enhance">hotels and private rooms five days to the elections. He added that his party took note of all these irregularities and informed the powers that be about it.

John Fru Ndi insisted that the SDF worn in the North West pegging his argument on the fact that in areas where the SDF had no councilors, his party still had votes. “If I wanted to bring disruption in this country, I could have attacked all those people that were running up and down.” The people the chairman is referring to, are the North West fons he claims they had warned electors that those who have eaten CPDM money should vote for the Party else their stomach will be swollen. “I am here saying it loud and clear that the fons who did this thing, their own stomach will be swollen,” the chairman said angrily.

Fru Ndi in the exclusive interview with the state radio reiterated that he will not accept to go to the senate through appointment. He said this as the President of the Republic is yet to appoint the remaining 30 senators latest by May 9, in order to complete the 100-seat Senate.

The other 70 senators were elected last April 14 in an election which saw the ruling CPDM winning absolute majority, 56 seats in eight regions thereby leaving the SDF with 14 seats picked from the West and Adamawa regions.

The members of Cameroon’s Upper House of parliament are expected to meet in their first ordinary session on May 14.
